Target audience: The people or person that a media product is aimed at. A target audience can be formed of people of a certain age group, gender, marital status, ethnicity and class etc.
Genre: Genre is a group or category that a film or media product can be put into e.g. Horror, Sci-Fi, Action, Thriller, Comedy and romance etc.
Conventions: The typical features of a given genre or the usual features you would find in a media product. For example in a horror film the lighting is usually dark and it rains quite a lot. Another example would be in an action film there is usually a fight scene or a car chase.
Codes: Technical/symbolic- The way in which we make sense of a media product- The unwritten language.
